Why do you need to decorate your front porch? This is the first space that greets you when you get home AND the most important thing all guests and passers by see.
So why not make it beautiful, and add some small seasonal touches?
Let’s talk about how you can decorate and transform your front porch or doorway into a beautiful Autumn scene with a few tips and some small additions.
This season we suggest going for a very well-curated, sophisticated vibe.
This means we want to create a clean look that looks well-put together. So ditch the tacky pumpkins, and sparkly signs that say “BOO” or “Spooky Season” and think of elements that are common in nature, or at least look like they could be! 😉

Start with a Colour Palette
Yes, if you know us, then you know, we always start with a colour palette. It is important to stick to a colour palette so that your design looks well put together and cohesive.
For this coming season we are loving warm neutrals, and organic earthy colours. Think sage green, burnt orange, mustard yellow and warm cream.
The colours of fall are truly some of our favourites because of their connection to nature and how well they compliment each other.
Speaking of colours, have you ever considered giving your front door a facelift with a new coat of paint?

Dress Up Your Front Door
Changing the colour of your door can be an amazing way to welcome a new season and give your outdoor space a new vibe. Since the door is rather small, it has the potential to be an easy project that makes a bold statement!
If you’re not keen on painting your front door, no worries! There are plenty of other ways you can decorate your front porch for fall.
One of the most common front door decorating pieces is a wreath, and for good reasons. A wreath is a simple yet beautiful way to add a little something extra to your door.
As we said above, we’re going for a very natural look this season, meaning you should go for a wreath that looks like it belongs in nature. Think about a wreath with natural materials like grass, eucalyptus or leaves.
Check out this pampas grass wreath we found at CB2, it gives off major Autumn vibes while still being elegant!
Did we mention that your wreath doesn’t need to be store bought? There are so many great DIY tutorials for wreath making out there. It is a great opportunity to try a new craft and make something that will truly be unique to you and your front porch!

Style Your Seating
If you’re lucky enough to have a porch big enough to include seating, add some stylish chairs or maybe even a swing. We even added a daybed to a front porch for a client a little while ago.
Next, let’s talk about throw pillows. Throw pillows are an amazing piece to switch your decor seasonally as they are affordable and come in practically any shape, pattern or colour.
They work great on front porch swings, chairs or benches. Again, focus on using natural colours this season.
As for patterns, we love a classic plaid or gingham pattern for fall and practically anything with tassels!
The materials of your pillows are also important to take into consideration. With the cool weather coming, you’ll want to select fabrics that make you feel warm and cozy.

Accessorise without Kitsch
Now, let’s discuss other accessories that make a great addition to your Autumn themed front porch. We know we said ditch the tacky pumpkins, but that doesn’t mean ditch pumpkins as a whole!
They are a fall staple afterall.
This year, try opting for real pumpkins on your porch. Pumpkin orange happens to be an on-trend colour for this fall, and you can usually find pumpkins of all shapes and sizes at a market, grocery store or pumpkin patch.
We also always love the look of a white pumpkin, they just look glamorous! That’s right, you heard us…we did just say that a pumpkin can be glamorous!
When you are acessorizing your front porch, keeping it simple is one of the most important front porch decorating tips we can give you.

Light it Up Beautifully
Lastly, let there be light! Lanterns are an amazing and affordable addition to your front porch and you can fill them with candles or even twinkle lights. This adds a beautiful, wam, glowy touch to your front area and will tie your design together.
You can find lanterns of all kinds on the market and the best part; you’ll most likely reuse them over the coming seasons as they are a timeless piece of decor.
Lighiting is probably one of our most favourite front porch decorating tips of all time.
Autumn is just around the corner and we want you to be just as excited as we are. A new season brings an opportunity for new beginnings and a fresh start.
Decorating your front porch for fall is the first step in getting yourself feeling excited and fresh for a new season! So what do you say? Let’s go pumpkin shopping!
