If you live in a house, your entryway is not just the part inside of your house. I always consider the way in from the road to your front door as part of the experience that creates a first impression for someone visiting your home. You only get to make that first impression once, so make sure you pay attention to all the detail along the way to your front door.
Here are some of our tips to improving your curb side appeal. We’ll get to the entryway inside your home just a little bit further down below. If you live in a condo, feel free to skip down.

Highlight the path to your door.
you can use strategically placed plants or lighting to highlight the path to your door.
I personally like to use a mix of short and tall plants along with a mix of outdoor garden lights and lanterns to decorate the way to the door.
Checkout the examples above for some inso.
Style your porch.
This is one I often see people miss.
If your idea of decorating your porch is to layout a tiny little welcome mat, you can definitely upgrade using these ideas.
I like the idea of using a small outdoor rug to create a tiny outdoor living area in your porch.
Add a bench or an outdoor accent chair and a little side table and you’ve got a cozy little space on your porch.
Decorate with some throw pillows, more planters and lanterns and your neighbours will be impressed!
Not only will this create a fantastic first impression and make anyone visiting your home feel welcome, it will also be a great place for you to hangout chatting with the neighbours every now and then too.

Bring attention to your door.
Let’s talk about your front door.
Choose a style and colour for your front door that makes people notice it from the street.
You can then use the tips above to style the area around the front door. I love the idea of having a wreath for every season, not just during the holidays.
Now that you’ve got the outside sorted, let’s focus on the inside.

Your entryway is like any other space in your home.
You need some furniture, lighting and decor to pull it all together.
Here are our secrets to creating a fantastic entryway. We’ll tell you what not to do and then how to fix it.
Don’t clutter with lots of furniture.
You need a place to check yourself before you go out the door, drop the keys and mail when you come in and maybe somewhere to sit when you take your shoes on or off.
You don’t need much furniture but you need to get the scale right, depending on how much space you have, to make it work.
If you have a very grand foyer and you got one small console table, that’s going to look weird.
Let me start with a smaller space because that’s almost always easier. At minimum find a console table that is the correct size for your space.
I say that knowing some of the spaces our clients challenge us with is so small that you can barely fit a bench, much less a console table.
Add a bench or a couple of poufs that you can use to sit on when you need to put on your shoes.
Add a rug that is appropriate in size for the space.
Style the top of the console and add an umbrella holder and a hall tree if you have room.
I like having a beautiful vase decorated with some high quality silk faux flowers to make the space feel welcoming and bright.
Now let’s move on to what you should do if you have a foyer that is spacious. In this case, draw inspo from the grand style of hotel lobbies.
If you have a large foyer, consider floating a table in the middle and decorate it with a gorgeous, oversized floral arrangement.
You can do pretty much all of the things we mentioned earlier in how to decorate a small foyer but make sure the size of your furniture and accessories are the right scale for your space.

Don’t forget the lighting.
Like any other space in your home, you should make sure there are layers of lighting in your entryway.
If you have high ceilings, add a beautiful, elegant, dramatic light fixture that shows off the high ceilings in your space.
Add a table lamp to the console table if you have space.
I also love the idea of walls sconces flanking either side of a mirror or light focused on artwork in a foyer.
Depending on how big your entryway is, you might consider a floor lamp as well.
Don’t veer from the style of the rest of your home.
Keep the style of your entryway similar to the rest of your home. I love playing with small entry ways to see how little decorative touches can add a lot of style.
Often the entryway is connected to the other areas of your home and serves as a place of transition. It should naturally invite you into other parts of the home.
Connect your entryway to other areas of your home by using a similar colour and accessories to style the space.
Don’t forget to make it memorable.
Remember that you only get once chance to make that first impression. So don’t be afraid to add some major style to your entryway.
Use a bold wallpaper or a mirror with a bold decorative frame. Create layers of decorative touches on the console table.
Choose a rug that brings drama to the space. Add a plant connect the entryway to the outside.
Now you’re all set for creating an entryway that will not only feel welcoming to someone visiting your home but also feel like home every time you step in through the front door.
