Wainscoting
The easiest way to add some architectural interest to your home is to add some wainscoting. There are many different types of wainscoting. That means you can choose a pattern that fits your personal style.
Check out the examples above. Do a quick search on Pinterest and you’ll have a ton of ideas to choose from.
Get started by identify the pattern that works for your style and home’s decor.

Wall Paneling
The difference between wainscoting and wall paneling is that the former usually covers about half to three quarters of a wall while the latter goes from the ceiling to the floor.
In case wall paneling conjures up images of 70s based sitcoms, or a childhood home, don’t worry, they are definitely making a comeback in interior design. They have been, for a few years now. Did you know that wall paneling has existed in one form or another, for hundreds of years?
Just like wainscoting, you can find a style of wall paneling that really fits with your personal style. And just like before, start by choosing a pattern you like.
2. Wallpaper your walls to add some pizzazz

Decorative painting techniques (think 80s) are making a another comeback! Colour washing, rag rolling, sponging, and ombre are just some that are increasingly becoming popular these days.
Creating a feature wall in your space could be as simple as painting your walls or introducing an interesting wallpaper design.
I once stenciled my bathroom walls in an intricate Moroccan design because I wasn’t able to find the exact wallpaper I really wanted. Stenciling could also be an option for you.
The best thing about this tip is that these easy decorative elements can be incorporated into your walls in just a few hours over a weekend.

3. Incorporate artwork in the right scale

You can do a gallery wall of art work or one big oversized piece of art on your wall to command some real style attention. Photography counts as art too!
Art doesn’t have to be a framed item necessarily. You can create an installation out of hats or shoes, like this pic below I took in a hotel lobby in Marrakech a few years ago.

It could even be a gallery wall of baskets or plates. Get creative with what you might have collected over the years.

4. Create a wall of shelves

I love a feature wall created out of floating shelves. It can be that simple. The other option is to place a tall bookshelf or two against the bare wall.
I think the hardest part of this tip is the styling of the said shelves. Display a mix of books and your favourite things. Add a small plant or two to create interest.
