Room design contests are how we start off your project. You request advice for the room you want to decorate, and design experts create style boards based on your needs. The contest helps you identify an interior design or décor professional you want to work with based on the style board they create for you.
Kick off your room design contest by creating a design brief. When you submit your design brief, you will receive 3-5 style boards from design experts signed up with our service.
Choose the style board you love and work with the design expert who created it to finalize your design plan.
Your design plan includes a completed style board, a shopping list within your budget, a floor plan that tells you where to put your furniture and instructions to help you pull it all together.

The room design process begins when you create a design brief for your decorating project. The process ends when you receive your final design plan.
The room design process is made up of two phases.
The first phase is called the room design contest. You kick off your room design contest by submitting your design brief. In this phase, you will receive 3-5 style boards from some of our design experts.
You can end this phase by choosing a style board you love as the winner of your contest. When you choose a winning style board, you are really choosing the Daakorator you want to work with.
In the second phase of the process, you will work with your design expert to finalize the details of your room design.
At the end of this phase you receive your design plan. The design plan includes a style board that has been tweaked based on your feedback, a shopping list with links to buy everything you need for the room, a floor plan that tells you where to put everything and any special instructions from our expert to help you pull everything together perfectly.
A design brief is a questionnaire that you answer to start your room design process.
This questionnaire captures details such as what room you want to design, your budget and your style to help the Daakorators understand what you are looking for.
The more information you provide in the design brief, the more likely you are to receive a design you truly love!
A style board is a single-page design concept that gives customers a feel for what their room could look like. It has a combination of the furniture, accessories, colours, etc. that will make up the room design being proposed by the Daakorator.
Style boards submitted during the design contest phase of the process are not complete. They give you a feel for what the room could look like and will be enough to help you make a decision for which Daakorator you will want to work with.
Once you choose a winning style board, you can work with that Daakorator to refine the style board. The Daakorator will add any missing pieces to the board and finalize the look.
Style boards are the jumping off point for the final design plan.
The design contest takes about 5-6 days. After that, you will receive a design plan in about 3 days.
The entire process takes about 7-10 days from when you submit your design brief.

A design plan is what you will receive at the end of the design process. It will have everything you need to decorate your room.
The design plan includes the final style board, a shopping list that fits your budget, a floor plan and any special instructions from the Daakorator to help you put your room together.
The shopping list is part of the final design plan. It has a list of items you will need to purchase to pull off your design.
The shopping list contains links to online vendors that sell the products the Daakorator has recommended. Often, we will negotiate discounts for items if possible and pass those on to the customer when they click on the links from our website.
The floor plan is one of the deliverables in the final design plan. It is a picture of your room that shows where everything should be placed to create the look you are after.
We recognize that our room design service is probably most attractive to customers that are DIY-ers.
So, we’ve asked our Daakorators to provide any special instructions as part of the final deliverable to give them some ideas on how add their own personal touch to the design of their room.

To start a project, first create an account with us. Once you have successfully registered, you can kick off a room design contest from My Projects page.
Just click on the Start New Projects button and you’ll be on your way.
You don’t actually have to choose Daakorators to begin a design contest. Our process will help you identify just the right person for your job!
When you submit your project by completing a design brief, all our Daakorators are automatically notified. If they choose to participate in your room design contest, they will submit a style board to you over the 5 days following the start of your contest.
After you have had a chance to review all of the style boards that came in for your contest, you choose the Daakorator you want to work with by choosing one style board you absolutely love!
Our process lets you identify a Daakorator based on the design concept they propose for your room, and not based on a portfolio of projects they’ve done for someone else!
At the end of the design process, you receive your final design plan.
Final design plan is made up of four parts. You will receive a style board that will give you a feel for what your room will look like, a shopping list that fits your budget with links to the items you will need to purchase, a floor plan that tells you where everything goes and any additional instructions from your Daakorator.
You should receive 3 to 5 style boards to choose from during your design contest.
We let up to 5 Daakorators participate in a design contest and each Daakorator is only allowed one submission for your design contest.
There are two ways to give feedback to your Daakorator.
First, you can comment on a style board submitted by a Daakorator. Just click on the icon with the speech bubbles and you will be able to provide feedback on the style board directly to the Daakorator.
Second, you can click on the Messages tab on your project to send a direct message to any Daakorator who has signed up to your room design contest. The messaging feature particularly handy once you’ve picked a winning Daakorator. You can message them directly to talk about your expectations for your final design plan.
Choose your winning style board by clicking on the trophy icon on the style board tab or on the style board page.
After you have chosen the winning the style board, you can send a message to your winning Daakorator to let them know what you want to see in your final design plan.
Start the conversation by discussing any tweaks that you want to see to your style board and work from there.
Over the next 3 days, your Daakorator will upload the design plan to your project. Once you are notified that the design plan has been uploaded, review the documents to make sure they are what you expected.
If you are happy with the design plan, you can click on the Accept Final Deliverables button. Next, download the style board, floor plan and instructions.
If you want to see some more tweaks to your design plan, send a message to your Daakorator asking for the changes you’d like to see. Be specific in your feedback so that the Daakorator can make the appropriate updates.

After choosing your winning style board, you should have your final deliverables within 3 days.
We ask the vendors we work with to provide a discount for you when you purchase items through our website. If you want a copy of your shopping list to shop on your own, contact us and we’ll be happy to provide you with one.
You can pick a winner at any time. If you see a style board that you love before the 5 days are up, select it as the winner. You will move on to the next stage.
If you need more time, just contact us and let us know. We will adjust the process timing to suit your needs.
You can request a refund if you have not yet selected a design contest winner.
To receive a refund, contact us with your Daakor order number, and tell us you would like a refund.
We will be in touch shortly to make things right. If you are eligible for a refund, we will process it right away.

If you can’t decide between style boards and want to choose two style boards as the winner of our room design contest, contact us. We can arrange for you to purchase the additional style board(s).
Once you submit a design brief and start your room design contest, you will not be able to update your design brief. If you want to communicate specific requirements to your Daakorator, you can directly message them from the Messages tab on your project page.

For our Daakorators to give you a design plan that you will love means we need to first get some info from you. It’s important for our design pro to know what your room looks like today. We get a feel for that with the room measurements and photographs.

Since we don’t come to your home to see what your room looks like, a photographs helps us see your room virtually. We need to see the room in more than one angle. So the guide we put together tells you to take 3 photos on each wall you have in the room you want to furnish and decorate.

Your Daakor Design Brief is what our Daakorators use as input to create your design plan. Your design brief represents you. So, it’s important to tell us everything that you think is important for us to know.
Here are some tips to get you going on the right foot.
Pinterest boards help us understand what design styles you gravitate towards. We find that most people like to go by labels – mid-century modern, traditional, country, modern, etc – but the truth is we find that people often choose more than one style when there are no labels attached.
This is especially true when we are working with a couple or a family. So, we’d rather you show us what type of designs you like and base your design plan on that info.
Sure, we have a few pics that you can choose from on page 2 of our design brief questionnaire but that only gives us the bare minimum on what your style could be.
Aim for a Pinterest board with about 15-20 pins of rooms you like that you could find on Pinterest, Houzz or elsewhere on the web. It will really go far to help us understand your style.
Since we provide e-design services and our Daakorators don’t see your room in person, it’s really important that we can visualize your room so we can get the proportions right for the design plan.
Follow the instructions provided for measuring and photographing your room and upload all your info to the design brief.
It could be a bit about how you plan to use the room, or who will be using the room, and a little about your lifestyle and anything else that might be relevant to you.
For example, in a recent project we did, our client told us in passing about a celebrity designer that they really like to follow on HGTV. That really helped us better understand how to create a design plan for her that she would really love.

If you have interior design and decorator training from a reputable school, that’s fantastic! But you don’t need it to apply.
We are looking for anyone with a keen eye for interior decorating and the desire to help others decorate their homes.
The application process will ensure you are able to meet our quality expectations!
As A Daakorator, you will need tools to create style boards, floor plans, shopping lists, instructions, 3D renderings, etc… You must have access to and knowledge of programs that will allow you to create these deliverables.
Daakorators that are currently part of our platform use a bunch of different tools. They use AutoCAD, Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, SketchUp, Microsoft Office, DesignFiles, SmartDraw and more.
We don’t tell you what tools to use. We do monitor what you are delivering to ensure that it’s up to the standard we want for Daakor.
There are a few rules we ask our Daakorators to follow. See the documents below for the details:

The Daakor process has two phases.
Phase 1: Design Contest
This phase begins when a customer submits a completed design brief on the platform.
When a customer initiates a project, you will get a notification on your Daakor account. You will also receive an email letting you know that a new room design contest has kicked off!
Click on the link in the email and take a look at the design brief. If you are interested in participating in this design contest, simply add the project to your My Projects page.
Once you have added the project to your My Projects, you can submit an initial style board for the design contest. You may only submit 1 style board per design contest.
The Customer will review all of the style boards they receive and pick the one they love the most. This Daakorator wins the design contest.
If you win the design contest phase, you will move on to the next phase of the project. This is also the final phase of the project and is called Final Deliverables phase.
During this phase, if you are the winning Daakorator, you will submit the final design plan for the customer. The final design plan includes the finalized style board, a shopping list, a floor plan and any instructions you have for the customer.
During this phase, be sure to communicate with your customer so you understand the customers expectations well. We know that you are going to knock their socks off!
You will receive an email notification from Daakor when a new design contest kicks off.
Also, when you log in to the Daakor platform, the notifications will link you to any new design contests that have kicked off since the last time you logged in.
Click on the link in your notifications saying a new design contest has kicked off. When the project page opens, review the design brief section of the project page to see if it’s a project you want to work on.
On the top right side of the project page, you will see an Add button. Click on that to add the project to your My Projects page and you’re on your way! Good luck!
The project page is organized into several tabs.
The first three tabs — About the Room, Room Details and Inspiration tabs– make up the design brief.
The design brief captures details about the room that the customer wants to decorate. It includes things like budget, dimensions, preferred colours, design style, Pinterest and Houzz boards and other inspirational information that the customer may want to share with you.
If you want to know more or want to clarify any info, there is a messaging tool on the Daakor platform you can use to communicate with your customer. Just click on the Messages tab on your project and you can start a conversation with your customer.
If there’s anything else we should be asking customers, let us know so we can add it to the questionnaire. We’re all ears!

You can upload your style board by clicking on the Style Board tab on the project page and clicking on the Upload Style Board button.
You will need to give your style board a descriptive name. Make it snazzy and memorable for your customer.
You can also include a brief description or some comments when you upload your style board. Tell your customer where the inspiration for the style board came from!
Nope! It’s absolutely free to enter a design contest.
You should include any major furniture items that are required, some accessories, paint colours, etc.
For the style board submission during the design contest, you don’t need to include everything. You just want to make sure your customer gets the design concept you are proposing for the room.
If you win the design contest, you will get the chance to get additional feedback from the customer to tweak your style board to meet their expectations.
There are no hard and fast rules on what you should or should not include in a style board.
A style board submitted during the design contest phase of the process should not include every item that you are proposing for the room design. Just remember to include enough items to give your customer a good feel for the design concept you are proposing.
Each Daakoator can submit one style board per contest.
You don’t have to provide an explanation but the customer will probably appreciate hearing your take on the design you propose.
You can include a blurb that is either a description or an explanation of your design when you upload the style board during the design contest phase.
A customer’s choice of style board will be very subjective, as they choose based on their preferences.
Your best bet is to take all of the information in the design brief into consideration when coming up with your style board during the design contest stage.
When in doubt, message the customer and ask questions.
Just remember to submit your style board within 5 days of the design contest kick-off.
You will get a notification when the customer chooses a winner in a design contest.

Easy. Go to the Style Board tab of the project. Hover over the style board and you will see an option to delete on the right hand side of the style board image.
You are now on to the final deliverable stage. This is the time to get additional input from your customer. Ask questions and make sure you understand what the customer is looking for in the final deliverables.
For example, you can ask them a bit more about what they use the room for, if they are a DIY-er and any other questions that might help you knock their socks off with your design deliverables!
To get input, click on the Messages tab of your project and send them a message.
During the design contest phase, there are two ways to send a message to your customer. The first is by clicking on the Messages tab of your project. Just type your message and hit send.
Once you’ve submitted a style board, you can also send a message to the customer on the style board tab. Click on the icon with two speech bubbles and type your message.
The Messages tab in the project page will stay active if you win the design contest, so that you can reach out to your customer to get additional info or ask any questions you have.
You should only contact a customer through the messaging feature that is made available on our website. Contacting a customer outside of the Daakor platform voids the Daakorator Agreement. Doing so will get you removed from the Daakor platform.
Once you’ve submitted a style board, you can also send a message to the customer on the Style Board tab. Click on the icon with two speech bubbles and type your message.
When you win a design contest, you will notice a new tab appear on the project page.
When you are ready to upload your final deliverables, click on the Final Deliverables tab. You will see placeholders where you can upload each deliverable.
Just remember that each deliverable has to be in a separate file in .pdf format and should follow the template guidelines provided to you.
The final design plan (or final deliverables) should include the following documents:
The shopping list should include everything necessary to create the look in your style board. It should have all the major pieces of furniture that make up the room, paint colours, accessories, window treatments, lighting, etc…
All items must be available online for purchase and the vendor must deliver across Canada.
The floor plan should function as a map for the customer and show where in the room to place each item in the shopping list and the style board.
We know that most of our customers are really into DIY when it comes to home décor.
Share some insider tips on how to create that designer touch in their space. You can also tell them why you chose certain pieces for their look and what inspired you. Share anything you think the customer might find useful or interesting.
Finally, don’t forget to thank the customer for trusting you to create their perfect space!
If your customer does not accept your final deliverables, they will contact us. We will work with the customer to figure out the next steps.
We will do everything we can to help reconcile any issues between customer’s expectations and your deliverables. In case we are not able to come to an agreement, we may initiate a new design contest for the customer or offer a refund.
In any of these cases, we will stay in touch with you closely to keep you in the loop.
You are eligible to request a payout after you have won at least one contest and submitted the final deliverables successfully.
You can request a payout by sending us an email at email@example.com.
If a customer requests a refund after the winning style board has been selected, we will immediately process the refund request. The contest will be considered complete even if the final deliverables were not provided.
If the customer request is received after they have accepted and downloaded the final deliverables, we will work with the customers to understand the reason for the request.
If the customer request for refund is accepted, we will deduct the equivalent earnings from your existing account or from your next successful project.
A customer can cancel a design contest anytime before they select a winning style board.
All Daakorators signed up for that project will be sent a notification of the cancellation and the Style Board and Messaging tabs will be disabled on the project page.
Once the customer gets their final design plan, they are in the driver’s seat for executing the plan. This is the most exciting time for a customer! We provide support to them for 30 days following the delivery of the final design plans. That means you may get some clarifying questions from the customer during this time.

A customer may pick more than one winning style board by sending us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and arranging for purchase of the additional style board. The Daakorators of the winning style board will each receive a corresponding winning amount for each submission.
A payout is a request you send to us when you decide to take your winning project earnings out of your Daakor account.
You are eligible to request a payout after you have won at least one contest and successfully delivered the final deliverables.
Your payout amount will be determined based on number of winning design contests and any refunds applied to your projects since the last payout made to you.
Daakor payments to Daakorators are made as e-transfers.
