How should you decorate your living room in 2022?
Last week we told you about the design trends we expect to see in 2022. Wondering what to do with this info now that you know? We translated the first 2 of those trends into living room decorating ideas you can actually use in this post.
Earth Toned Colour Palettes
We have lots of ideas on how you could incorporate earthy tones into your living room design. For instance, you could paint your walls in an earthy tone. Or create a feature wall with an earthy tone wallpaper or paint. Another idea is to purchase a sofa or an accent chair upholstered in fabric that has an earth tone. As you can see, there are endless decorating possibilities for this trend in your living room.

Let’s say you chose to go with painting your walls. We love that because changing paint isn’t as hard as we make it aught to be. It’s actually one of the easist ways to change up your room. It’s also one of the most cost effective interior decorating ideas.
For example, you could paint with a darker, bolder earth tone–we love doing this for a feature wall or a built-in to really make it pop. Or you could choose a more neutral, calmer tone of nature to paint all or rest of the walls in the space.
Some of our favourite earth tone paint colours by Benjamin Moore are below.

Another living room decorating idea for your walls, where you could use an earthy tone, is to use wallpaper. These are the wallpaper options our design team is going crazy over right now. For our projects, we often use wallpaper in feature walls. Another creative decorating idea is to use wallpaper on the inside of cabinets or bookshelves.
Earthy tone furniture is everywhere this year. We are sharing below some of our favourite products in earth tones that you could use in your living room.
Curvilinear Furniture
Curvy furniture started to gain traction a few years ago and it will be the “it” thing for home decorating in 2022. Consequently, the biggest reason most people hesitate to jump into this trend is around the longevity of this trend.
You see, curvilinear furnishings were a thing in the 60s and 70s as part of the mid-century modern movement. But we haven’t really seen much of it over the last 20 years until recently. There are some references to seeing this style of furniture last in the 1990s.
No one knows how long this living room decorating trend will be “in” for this time around. If you make the investment to purchase something now, is your space going to look dated in 5 years? How about 10 years from now? Those are all good questions to ask yourself.
Should You Invest In a Living Room Decorating Trend?
What we know for sure is that in 10 years, your space will most likely look outdated. That is, if you haven’t made any changes to your decor to keep up with changing styles and trends. Over time everything you have in the room is bound to look dated, and probably worn.
We don’t have a crystal ball to look into and tell you how long this trend will last, but we can share some tips with you on how to sprinkle a bit of the curvilinear trend around your living room. This way, you get to keep your space up-to-date and enjoy the trend.
We think th easiest way to add this trend to your home is to bring in an accent piece of furniture (or two) that has curvilinear features. Here are some of our faves.
The curvilinear trend is not just about furniture. We’ve collected some photos where curvy elements have been introduced into a room in other ways. Notice the mirrors, lighting, accent furniture and decor in each of these rooms that support the curvilinear trend.

Just like you don’t go out and buy a whole wardrobe of furniture every season based on trends, you shouldn’t approach home design trends the same way. Trick is to sprinkle some of the trendy styles in your space to keep your home up-to-date.
