Our Favourite Paint Colour Trends Right Now
If you’re one of our regular readers, that means you’re into interior design. That also means that you know colour can have such a huge impact on how you feel in a space. There’s a whole area of psychology dedicated to studying this impact.
Wall colour is a key component of the colour palette that makes up a room design. That’s why we wanted to dedicate a whole blog post to this subject.
Earth tones have been playing a big role in colour palettes for the last few year. That’s because these colours make us feel at ease and bring us comfort and warmth. Is it any surprise that we’re looking for things that make us feel this way after everything we have collectively been through in the last couple of years?
So what exactly are these earthy tones that are going to dominate this year? And why should you paint your walls in one (or more) of these paint colours? Let’s dive in.
Earthy Greys
Grey paint colours aren’t completely going away just yet. But they are changing a little bit from what we’ve gotten accustomed to. You will be seeing this colour with brown, blue and green undertones that will not just add drama into your space. It will wrap you with comfort and warmth we’ve all been longing for during this pandemic.
You can use these tones pretty much anywhere–in all the walls in a room, as a feature wall, or on cabinets and built-ins to add drama and set the tone.
Here are the paint colours we recommend for this trend.

Earthy Jewel Tones
Similarly to the earthy greys above, these colours are jewel tones with a brownish undertone. These goregous tones have a definite air of sophistication to them for sure. They add colour to the room while bringing in that warmth and ambiance to the space we crave.
Like the earthy greys, you can use these colours in any room in the house or on cabinets and built-ins. In fact, we think these tones would look splendid on a built-in!
If you wan to keep up with this paint colour trend, here’s what we suggest.

Earthy Greens
Are you seeing a pattern here? Everything’s coming up in earth tones. Green continues to be a big colour trend this year. In fact, nature inspired elements have been a big theme in interior design trends in the last few years. It makes sense then that green is big as a colour trend.
Earthy greens are greens with a brown or grey undertone. The lighter tones of this trend will almost work as a neutral in a space. In fact, Benjamin Moore, Behr, Dulux and many other paint companies chose a colour consistent with this trend for their colour of the year for 2022.
Like in the other earthy tone colours, you can use these colours in your whole home. A bolder, more dramatic version of an earthy green is perfect for cabinets and built-ins.
Our picks for paint colours consistent with this trend are below.

Warm Neutrals
Creamy whites are all the rage for 2022. Not quite beige and not really a white. And we know that white has been a popular wall paint colour for a while. This trend just takes a slightly warmer tone to the white we all know and like.
We love the comforting and calm vibe that this trend creates. And it provides the flexibility to add pops of colour through furniture and decor. These tones are also perfect to use in any room in the house.
These colours were easy to recommend because they are some of our go-to colours at Daakor.

Terracotta
Terracotta is a hot paint colour trend for 2022. It’s a colour that conjures up images of Tuscany for me. Under the Tuscan Sun, anyone?
It is most definitely a colour that brings warmth and comfort to a room but it’s also alluring and calming. This is the colour for you if you are looking to create a space that feels reassuring. Or it’s a way to spice things up in a room too, depending on the shade..
We think that this colour is best suited for living rooms, family rooms, kitchens and home offices.
Here are our picks for adopting this trend.

Vibrant Hues
For the first time in it’s 23 year history, Panatone created a new hue for 2022. It’s called Veri Peri. This periwinkle shade brings bright blue and vibrant red together. Blue, in this bright hue, brings energy into a space and red creates excitement. Seems to be the perfect shade to bring us out of a pandemic, right?
In addition to Veri Peri by Pantone, we’ve been seeing a lot of gorgeous bright hues in interiors lately. We love trying out these bright tones in small spaces like powder rooms or as a feature wall in a home office or a living room. Be sure to balance your room with lots of neutral furnishings if you choose to go with a vibrant hue like these.
Here are some of our favourites, if you dare!

Aqua Inspired
Coastal design style is so popular because it’s airy, calming, relaxing and comforting. These aqua inspired colours are typically what a coastal colour palette is made with. This is a style and a colour palette we’ve seen many clients gravitate towards during the pandemic. Think soft blues and dusty teals as the colours that reflect the trend in 2022.
These colour trend brings tranquility and optimism into a room. These tones are perfect for any room in the house but we love the idea of using these colours in a bedroom or a bathroom to make it feel calm and restful.
Here are the colours we recommend, if you plan to go with the colour trend.

There you go. These are the colours we expect to continue to see for a little longer.
In case those weren’t enough for you, we also shared some of our favourite earth tone paint colours – both bold and neutrals from Benjamin Moore over here.
